All UCT academic staff members are assigned a researcher profile on the UCT Research Portal website by default and do not need to request access. Academic staff may access the UCT Research Portal website using their UCT network credentials.
Certain basic personal and contact details will be pre-populated from the SAP Human Resources (HR) system and saved under their profiles. The academic (or designated proxy) will be responsible for populating the remaining content of all other aspects of the Researcher Profile.
The Proxy feature allows UCT academics to appoint a person as a proxy to manage their researcher profile on their behalf. Proxies may be UCT non-academic (PASS) staff, current UCT students, other UCT academic staff or any person with a third party system ID (T-number) as recognised by the UCT Identity Vault.
In the task menu, the Proxy drop-down menu currently contains two items: Manage Proxies and Select Profile.
Manage Proxies provides the facility for UCT academics (the researcher profile holder) to add and delete proxies. There is no limit on the number of proxies academics may add to manage their profile.
Once assigned, the proxy can access the UCT Research Portal website by means of their UCT network credentials. Proxies do not have the facility to add or delete other proxies so will not be able to perform any functions on the Manage Proxies page.
If a UCT academic (researcher) is acting as a proxy for another UCT academic (the researcher profile holder), they will only be able to manage proxies associated with their own researcher profile and not those associated with the researcher profile for which they are a proxy.
If a proxy has been assigned to more than one researcher, Select Profile provides the option for the proxy to select the relevant researcher profile to edit.
