About rich text fields

If you are using Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser, you will have to use the appropriate keyboard shortcuts to perform the cut / copy / paste functions instead of the icon provided within the rich text editor.

Working with features of the rich text editor

Button

Function

Use as follows...

cf_bold.gif

Bold

To apply bold formatting to text:

  • Click the bold icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the bold icon.

Italic

To apply italic formatting to text:

  • Click the italic icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the italic icon.

Underline

To apply underline formatting to text:

  • Click the underline icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the underline icon.

Insert Link

To insert a link:

  • Highlight the existing text to which you wish to apply the link.

  • Click the insert / edit link icon.

  • The Insert / Edit Link dialog box appears.

  • Enter the full web address in the Link URL field.

  • Select the target from the Target drop-down list field.

  • Enter the title the Title field.

  • Click Insert.

  • The page containing the rich text editor reopens

  • The linked text will be indicated with underlined blue text.

Edit Link

To edit a link:

  • Click the existing underlined blue linked text.

  • Click the insert / edit link icon.T

  • he Insert / Edit Link dialog box appears containing the link details.

  • Edit the full web address in the Link URL field.

  • Select the target from the Target drop-down list field.

  • Edit the title the Title field.

  • Click Update.

  • The page containing the rich text editor reopens

Unlink

To unlink / remove an existing link:

  • Click on the existing underlined blue linked text.

  • Click the unlink icon.

  • The underlined blue formatting disappears and the link is removed.

Strikethrough

To apply strikethrough formatting to text:

  • Click the strikethrough icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the strikethrough icon.

Align left

To align text to the left:

  • Click the align left icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the align left icon.

Align right

To align text to the right:

  • Click the align right icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the align right icon.

Align Center

To align text to the center:

  • Click the align center icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the align center icon.

Align full

To align text full  / justify:

  • Click the align full icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the align full icon.

Subscript

To apply subscript formatting to text:

  • Click the subscript icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the subscript icon.

Superscript

To apply superscript formatting to text:

  • Click the superscript icon and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the superscript icon.

 

Cut

To cut an existing piece of text:

  • Highlight the existing text and click the cut icon.

Note: If you are using Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser, you will have to use the keyboard short Ctrl+X to perform this function instead of the icon provided.

 

Copy

To copy an existing piece of text:

  • Highlight the existing text and click the copy icon.

Note: If you are using Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser, you will have to use the keyboard short Ctrl+C to perform this function instead of the icon provided.

 

Paste

To paste a piece of cut / copied text:

Note: If you are using Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser, you will have to use the keyboard short Ctrl+V to perform this function instead of the icon provided.

  • In order to paste text, you must have either cut or copied text (as described above) immediately beforehand.

  • Place your cursor at the point where you wish to insert the pasted text.

  • Click the paste icon.

Bullets

To apply bullet formatting to text:

  • Click the bullet icon and enter your list of items

  • Or highlight an existing list of items and click the bullet icon.

Numbers

To apply number formatting to text:

  • Click the numbers icon and enter your list of items

  • Or highlight an existing list of items and click the numbers icon.

Decrease indent

To decrease an indent to text:

  • Click the decrease indent icon as many times as required and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the decrease indent icon as many times as required.

Increase indent

To apply an indent to text:

  • Click the increase indent icon as many times as required and enter your text

  • Or highlight existing text and click the increase indent icon as many times as required.

Undo (the last action)

  • Click as many times as required to systematically undo each step / action just performed.

Redo

(the last action)

  • Click as many times as required to systematically redo each step / action previously undone.

Special characters

To insert special characters into text:

  • Place your cursor at the point where you wish to insert the special character.

  • Click the special character icon.

  • The Select Special Character dialog box appears.

  • Select the special character you wish to insert.

  • The page containing the rich text editor reopens
