Procedure: Finding facilities/equipment in the Research Facilities database

Background

The taxonomy uses a three level hierarchy to classify facilities/equipment by its primary research function.  Groups of related facilities can be found by browsing the facilities categories hierarchy or by entering keywords into the search box. Contact details are given for all facilities to enable you to contact facility managers (or those responsible for the facility) regarding availability and access.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the UCT Research Portal website with your UCT network credentials.

  2. Click Research Facilities to open the Research Facilities database.

  3. In the Researcher Facilities page, browse or search as follows:

If you know…

then...

the Category or research function of the facility

  • Click to expand the Category and applicable hierarchy to filter the facilities list until you find the relevant category.

  • If the applicable facility has been captured then it appears in the shortlist.

  • If you find the facility, refer to its details as required.

something about the facility

  • Enter a search term identifying the facility in some way.
    Note: Enter either full word/s or a partial search term followed by an asterisk (*).

  • Click Search.

  • A list of search results appears.

  • If the applicable facility has been captured, and if the term you entered is in the information captured, then it appears in the list.

  • If you find the facility, refer to its details as required.

If you do not find the facility you are looking for, and you know that UCT has this facility, then log an IT Helpdesk call to ask that it be added to the list and add as much information as you can about it.
