Signing in or out

A number of terms are used to describe parts of the screen, pages and things that you can do.

Term

Description

third party

A person who requires access to one or more of UCT’s facilities for a limited period (not exceeding six months).

Organisational Unit

Organisational Units (departments) at UCT.

Organisational Unit Authority

A staff member associated with an Organisational Unit who can authorise or sponsor a third party’s access to UCT facilities.

Organisational Unit Authorities use the system to capture the third party’s personal and access details. There can be more than one Organisational Unit Authorities per Organisational Unit, however, they must be approved by the Head of Department (HOD). This is done when the HOD signs the BAS06 – New Third Party System user application form.

Authorizer/approver

The Organisational Unit Authority or authorizer who has authorised or approved a third party’s access to UCT facilities.

Affiliation

A company or organisation that a third party represents or a body to which a third party is affiliated.

Requester

The UCT staff member requesting a new third party account or requesting the renewal of an existing third party account.

Role

The role of a third party during their period of access to UCT. See: UCT Role Model: Third Parties

System role

System roles are specified by the person's role in the UCT hierarchy, i.e. line managers are made authorizers and all other staff member are made requesters and given access in the UCT Third Party System according to these roles.
