Procedure: Finding the absolute URL

An absolute url is the full internet address of a Web page. It includes a protocol, such as "http," network location, path, and file name e.g. http://help.uct.ac.za/rp/uctrp.htm.

Add help topics to an e-mail or on a department web page for example: procedures or processes that you want to make accessible to colleagues or to refer to occasionally.

Procedure

In Internet Explorer

  1. In the right-hand topic pane:

  2. Right click and select Properties.

  1. In the Properties dialog box:

  2. Highlight the absolute URL (from http to htm) in the Address (URL) field.

  3. Right click and select Copy or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+C

  4. Click OK to close this dialog box.

  1. Navigate to the place you want to paste the absolute URL e.g. an e-mail.

  2. Right click and select Paste or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+V

In Mozilla Firefox

  1. In the left-hand navigation pane:

  2. Right click on the topic and select Copy Link Location.

  1. Navigate to the place you want to paste the absolute URL e.g. an e-mail.

  2. Right click and select Paste or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+V.

In Google Chrome

  1. In the left-hand navigation pane:

  2. Right click on the topic and select Copy link address.

  1. Navigate to the place you want to paste the absolute URL e.g. an e-mail.

  2. Right click and select Paste or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+V.
