Introduction

The Contact Details sub-category allows for the updating of various contact information, including links to your online presence such as websites and social media.

Field types/fields

Description/field rules

Compulsory fields

  • All fields which are UCT compulsory fields are noted by *

  • All fields which are NRF compulsory fields are noted by *

  • If synchronisation with the NRF is required, completion of the National Research Foundation (NRF) fields is mandatory.  For more information, see: NRF funding overview (external link).

  • Note: Not all academics/researchers require synchronisation with the NRF

Free text fields

  • Free text fields have no limit on type of character input.

  • Title free text fields are restricted to 100 characters.

  • Other free text fields are restricted to 500 characters.

Extendable select fields

  • The Institution and Primary organisation that funds your salary fields are both extendable select type fields.

  • After entering three characters into these fields, a drop-down list of similarly named institutions appears.  

  • As more characters are entered, the drop-down list will be further refined.  

  • Select your institution from the drop-down list, if it appears, or continue entering the name your institution.   

  • Institutions which do not appear on the drop-down list will be added to the list once they have been vetted.

Radio button

  • Radio buttons are round selection buttons.

  • One of the radio buttons will be selected by default.

  • Only one radio button may be selected at any one time.

  • When one is selected, all others are automatically deselected.

Check box

  • Check boxes are square selection options.

  • When selected, a check box contains a tick (check) mark.

  • When deselected, a check box is empty.

  • Clicking in the check box toggles the appearance of the tick (check) mark.

Note: Before editing the Work Postal Address, Work Physical Address and Home Address fields or before entering information into the Professional Websites and Online Communications fields, ensure that Save Changes (at the bottom of the page) is clicked prior to editing any of these fields to make sure that information entered into prior fields on the Contact Details page is retained.

Validation in the Contact Details fields

The following fields are validated to ensure that information is entered in the required format, if not, an error messages will be displayed as below:

The Professional Websites and Online Communications fields provide a useful means of linking to additional digital and social networking platforms where you may have a professional online presence.  Well developed and maintained websites in which you are actively involved or social media portals, such as Twitter, where you post items relevant to your research or field of expertise can be listed here.
