UCT role

System role

Description

Academic staff (permanent and T-contract)

Researcher (Researcher Profile holder)

  • All UCT academic staff are assigned a researcher profile on the UCT Research Portal website by default and do not need to request access.

  • Access to the UCT Research Portal website is by means of their UCT network credentials.

  • Academic staff may:

  • appoint a UCT PASS staff member, a current UCT student, another UCT academic staff member or a third party as a proxy to manage their profile on their behalf.

  • add a proxy to manage their profile on their behalf and add as many proxies as they require.

  • delete proxies, if necessary.

Non-academic (PASS) staff (permanent and T-contract) and third parties

Proxy

  • Proxies may be UCT non-academic (PASS) staff, current UCT students, other UCT academic staff or third parties.

  • Once assigned as a proxy, access to the UCT Research Portal website is by means of their UCT network credentials.

  • Proxies may not create proxies.

  • The proxy is responsible for populating content for all other sections of the Researcher Profile other than the basic pre-populated information already saved by default.

Student (undergraduate, postgraduate, Postdoctoral fellow or occasional student)

Proxy
Note: Postgraduate students could also be a researcher on request and if approved.

  • Students do not have default access to the Researcher Profile and Scholarly Outputs modules.

  • Students may be authorised to access these modules as a proxy by an academic.

  • Once a student has been assigned as a proxy, they can access the UCT Research Portal website by means of their UCT network credentials.

  • Postgraduate students may also have their own researcher profile, if their supervisor applies on their behalf for their researcher profile to be created via the Research Office (external link).
